Dr. Alex George , Department Chairman
English IV, AP English

Dr. George started at Marmion as a Senior English teacher in 1978. He has been the English department chair since 1989. He received his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D from Loyola University Chicago. His professional memberships/ honors include National Council of Teachers of English Alpha Sigma Nu (National Jesuit Honor Society), Modern Language Association, Who's Who Among America's Teachers. Dr. George's teaching philosophy: Being able to think critically and creatively, to read actively and with appreciation, to write clearly and with elegance, and to speak confidently: these are my goals for my students.

Dan Billish, English I, Journalism, Head Cross Country Coach

Mr. Billish joined the English Department in 2007 as the English I and journalism teacher. Mr. Billish earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Indiana University and had previously taught and coached at Lincoln-Way High School (New Lenox, IL) and Glenbard East High School (Lombard, IL). Mr. Billish also serves as moderator of the school newspaper and Head Coach of the cross-country team and assistant coach of track team.

Dr. Richard Holinger, English III, Honors

Dr. Holinger has taught English, creative writing and film at Marmion for 28 years. His poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction, and book reviews have appeared in over a hundred literary journals, including The Southern Review, The Iowa Review, Boulevard, ACM, Witness, The Midwest Review, Other Voices, and The Texas Review. Honors include a poetry fellowship from the Illinois Arts Council, and two Pushcart Prize nominations. Four years ago he began writing a weekly column for his hometown paper, The Geneva Sun. He facilitates several creative writing workshops in northern Illinois, including The St. Charles Writers Group that meets bimonthly. He is also a member of the "Great Books Hour" discussion group, broadcast biweekly on public access stations in Chicago's western suburbs. Degrees include a B.A. from Hartwick College, Oneonta, NY, an M.A. in English from Washington University and a Ph.D. in English with a specialty in Creative Writing from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He lives in Geneva with his wife and two children.

Bob Rebenstorf, English II, Honors

Mr. Rebenstorf has been at Marmion for 24 years. He teaches English II and English IV. He served for over 20 years as the Head Cross Country Coach and has led the team to nine Conference Championships. He received his BA in English Literature from Knox College, Galesburg, IL and his MA in English Linguistics from Northern Illinois University. He is a member of the National Council of Teachers of English and the International Arthurian Society. Rebenstorf's teaching philosophy: Challenge students and then support them in their efforts to achieve.

Fr. Nathanael Roberts OSB,
English I Honors/Theology III

Fr. Nathanael has taught at Marmion since 2001. He teaches English I Honors and Theology III. He received his BA in English from Fordham University, his MA in English Literature from the University of Chicago and a Master of Divinity degree from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley. He has taught in high school and middle school English in Puerto Rico, California and Hawaii, and college level English in Korea and the Marshall Islands.

Kristin Voris, English II/III/IV

Ms. Voris joined the English Department as an instructor of English II-IV in 2008. Kristin earned a Master’s Degree in Film and Literature from Northern Illinois University and a Bachelor’s Degree in English from the University of Illinois. She has six years of teaching experience at West Aurora High School and St. Edward High School. Ms. Voris is also head of the Academy's Drama Club and director of the annual spring musical.
