Marmion Academics provides consistent challenges, as the faculty and coursework encourage the students to develop their talents and prepare for college.

Marmion Academy senior Luke Martinez of Sugar Grove signed his National Letter of Intent to swim for the University of Illinois at Chicago Flames next year. Martinez, an IHSA State qualifier in 2007, is one of four high school seniors signing with the UIC Men’s swimming and diving program.

The Students:
The Marmion Academy student body consists of 520 boys in grades 9-12.

•99% of the students are from Illinois.

•89% of the students are Roman Catholic.

•16% are minority students.

Annually, approximately 95% of Marmion graduates attend a four-year college or university, with 4% attending a community college and 1% entering military service. Annually, approximately 65% of Marmion Academy graduates receive an academic scholarship or honor, the Class of 2007 receiving over $7.5 million in scholarships. Since 1958, 112 Marmion students have been named National Merit Scholarship Finalists, with hundreds more being named as Semifinalists and commended Students.

Marmion offers 8 AP classes including Chemistry.
Sixteen Marmion Academy students were named AP Scholars last year. This title is given in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement (AP) Exams. Only 18% of the more than one million students who took AP Exams in 2007 performed at a sufficiently high level to merit such recognition.

2008 Eucharistic Ministers
Members of the senior class are selected to serve as Eucharistic Ministers.

Special Academic Programs:
• Honors courses are offered all four years

•The Advanced Placement Program of the College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB) is offered in Biology, Chemistry, Calculus (AB/BC), Physics (B), Spanish IV, French V, English IV and U.S. History.

•Theology is a full-time accredited academic course of study required of all students everyday for all four years. Daily Mass is available for the students.

Graduation Requirements:
Marmion requires that each graduate complete 4 credits each in English and Theology; 3 credits in Mathematics; 3 elective credits; 2 credits each in a Foreign Language, Science, Social Studies, and either Military Science (JROTC) or Leadership Education and Development (LEAD); and 1 credit each in Health/Physical Education; and 1/2 credit in Music and Art. Marmion students are required to perform at least 15 hours of community service each academic year.

At least 23 & 1/4 credits are required for graduation.

Grading Scale:

A = 100% - 92%
B = 91% - 83%
C = 82% - 75% (minimum College-Recommendation)
D = 74% - 70%
F = (Failure)

Superior Cadet: 3.80 Honor Roll Average
Distinguished Cadet: 3.40 Honor Roll Average
Honor Cadet: 3.00 Honor Roll Average

2007 Marmion graduate Brian McMeans of Geneva received the Kane County State’s Attorney 2006 Community Pride Award and scholarships totaling over $109,000 over four years. Brian now attends Boston College.
