Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends,

The next meeting of the Marmion Sports Boosters is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13th at 7:00 PM in the Lux Dining Hall and all “boosters” and other interested parents, guardians and friends of Marmion athletics are encouraged to attend.

If you have not joined or have not been active in the Marmion Sports Boosters this year, I urge you to do so and become an active member of the organization in the 2008-2009 academic year. The Marmion athletic program could not be what it is – and could not aspire to what it can be – without the vital work of hundreds of Marmion Sports Boosters and the athletic income that this organization generates.

As many of you are aware, many schools have instituted athletic participation fees to generate the necessary revenue to supplement their school’s athletic budget. Marmion has not had to seriously consider such a move, in part, because of the substantial assistance that the Academy’s athletic program receives from the Marmion Sports Boosters. We’re fortunate also, that, over the years, Marmion has been blessed with wonderful parent-volunteers to manage and lead the important activities of this essential organization.

At next Tuesday’s meeting, I will raise the yearly call for parent volunteers – specifically, individuals to assume leadership roles with-in the Sports Boosters’ organization. We had a great group of Booster officers this year – and some will be able to stay-on through the 08-09 school year. However, with graduations and other professional and family responsibilities, some leadership and volunteer turn-over is inevitable every year and I expect that there will be some vacancies to fill.

With this in mind, I’d like you to consider assuming a leadership role in the Marmion Sports Boosters for the 08-09 school year – or recommend to me someone you think would be interested in becoming more involved. It’s a great way to meet the parents of your son’s friends and teammates while supporting Marmion athletics. Besides – it’s a lot of fun!
