Fine Arts Department Music Stephen Thurlow is the Department Chairman of Music at Marmion Academy, apposition he has held since 1984. He has a broad base of experience in directing concert band, marching band, jazz ensemble, chorus, and musicals. Mr. Thurlow is a member of the American School Band Director Association and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in instrumental music education and a Master's degree in Applied Horn. He continued his education in post-graduate work at Yale University in Applied Horn, as well as studying with Helen Hirsch (former principal horn of the Chicago Symphony). Mr. Thurlow has been selected to conduct the I.M.E.A. district 7 honor jazz ensembles on two occasions as well as being an area clinician. He has conducted semi-professional stage performances in Naperville's Summer Place, as well as having past experience teaching horn at North Central College and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. In the summer Mr. Thurlow directs the Aurora All-City Jazz Ensemble and directs a special enrichment program of Musical Exploration for the City of Aurora. Currently Mr. Thurlow has students majoring in Music in 5 different universities. Awards: Outstanding Teacher Award-Marmion Academy 1999, 2001.
Art Lisa joined the Marmion faculty in 2000. She teaches Introduction
to Art to freshmen and Studio Art to upperclassmen. This year she introduced
the course - Digital Design. Lisa is also the director of the Dr. Scholl's
Art Gallery which hosts six shows each year. A graduate of the University
of Notre Dame, she received the Notre Dame Alumni of the Year Award
in 2000 from the ND Naperville/Lisle Club.
Jeanne McLean joins the Marmion faculty this year as an art instructor. Jeanne earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Industrial Design from the University of Notre Dame and has taught on a part-time basis (both music and art) at several area Catholic grade schools. |
