Leadership Program Department JROTC Program (Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps)
Sergeant Major Gissel is a '69 graduate of Marmion Military Academy. He entered the United States Army in January of 1971 and served 26 years on active federal military service in the Infantry Branch. During his tour of service he served in a variety of leadership and instructor positions. Some of Sergeant Major's leadership positions were as Squad and Section Leader, Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, Battalion and Brigade Sergeant Major. His instructor positions were as a Drill Sergeant, Airborne Instructor (in both the basic and advanced airborne schools) and at The Sergeants Major Academy. In August of 1996 Sergeant Major Gissel began his career at Marmion Academy as an Instructor in the Military Department and also the coach/moderator of Marmion Academy's drill team, Flannigan Rifles. Sergeant Major Gissel has been married for 33 years to his wife Carrie and they have three children and one grandson.
LEAD Program (Leadership Education and Development)
Vince Bellafiore is in his 10th year as the Director of the Leadership Education And Development (LEAD) Program at Marmion. He has an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, a Bachelors Degree in Applied Behavioral Science and a Masters of Science in Management Program (with an emphasis on organizational leadership) from National-Louis University. He joined Marmion after retiring from the Batavia Police Department as a Sergeant. In his years at the police department, his duties included: patrolman, shift supervisor, detective (Juvenile Officer), supervisor of the gang unit, supervisor of the firearms program, and mayoral appointee to the Batavia Teen Center. Teaching Philosophy: It's simple, to be a leader, you must first lead yourself. If you can't lead yourself, you have no business leading others. I teach leadership life-skills and the values and principles necessary to contribute to the changing world in which we live. I have been married for 34 years and have three adult children and two granddaughters. His two sons are Marmion graduates. |
