The Class of 1958 outdid themselves once again. Fifty-three (53)
alumni (out of 104 for whom we have known current addresses) attended
our Golden Jubilee Reunion weekend on May 30 and 31, 2008. This
was the greatest number and percentage of returning alumni in
the history of Marmion Military Academy.
We enjoyed an intimate gathering on Friday evening over appetizers
and cocktails in the foyer of the Battaglia Center. This afforded
us the opportunity for lively conversations and many reminiscences.
Saturday we had a tour of the impressive Marmion campus followed
by the Jubilee Mass celebrated in the new St. Augustine of Canterbury
Church. We then adjourned to the Leonard Lux Dining Hall for cocktails,
dinner and dancing. The Jubilee Mass was concelebrated by classmates
Fr. Peter (Frank) Witchousky and Fr. Richard Kramer along with
several of the monks from Marmion Abbey. Read Frank's
homily or a listing of deceased
class members who were remembered at the Mass.
Recognized at the reunion dinner were: Ray Beach for his many
contributions in making our class reunion such a great success.
Don Arndt and his family for their numerous contributions to Marmion.
Our classmates on Marmion's Lay Board of Trustees: Don Arndt,
Bob Bender, Tom Leuer, Jack Martin and Tom Streit. Bill Cliff
traveled the furthest from Captain Cook on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Abbott David Cyr and Neal Fichtel were there to represent our
former teachers and coaches.
What about future reunions? We are invited back to celebrate
with the Golden Jubilee Class each year. However, Ray Beach needs
a little break. Is there an interest (since we are Marmion's best
class) in putting together a concerted effort to get together
every five years? Let us know what you think. Dan Pieroni is already
looking forward to our 75th!
Check out the link to Smugmug
as the photos of our 50th year reunion are now posted. If you
have a unique picture from the reunion that you would like to
include, please send it to Madelyn
Weed.
Also send any comments on our class or the reunion that you
want included on the web site to Paul
Reichenbacher or David
Rausch. Please contact Dan
Howell at Marmion to update any personal information or information
on alumni 'missing in action'.
Thank you Dan Howell, Madelyn Weed and Donna Bohr for helping
us put together such an outstanding weekend, including the Golden
Jubilee Reunion Update and Memory Book on our classmates and the
collection of reunion pictures on the web site.
