Head Baseball Coach Selected
Frank Chapman, Jr. has been named the head varsity baseball coach at Marmion Academy in Aurora. Former Head Baseball Coach David Rakow announced at the end of the 2015 season that he accepted the position as the Director of the Academic Center at Marmion Academy and will focus on building that program.

Father Mario Pedi of Marmion Abbey died peacefully in the Lord at 8:10 am on Friday, August 28 at McAuley Manor. He was 88 years old.
Abbot Vincent Bataille, OSB  of Marmion Abbey & Academy was named the recipient of Marmion Academy’s Fr. Alcuin Deck Distinguished Service Award for the first semester of the 2013-2014 academic year.  This award is presented to an individual in recognition of outstanding contribution and faithful service to Marmion Academy and in gratitude for exemplifying a spirit of charity and dedication as a member of the Marmion faculty and staff. Abbot Vincent’s record of service to the Academy is lengthy and distinguished and well deserving of this award. The Marmion Men’s Chorus will be featured at a nondenominational religious service honoring the veterans who gave their lives for freedom. The service will take place at The Moving Wall Vietnam Veteran Memorial located on the practice soccer fields at West Aurora High School (1201 W. New York St.) on Sunday, November 10 at 10am. Five Marmion Academy seniors have been honored with Commended status in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Competition.  Daniel W. Creighton, Garrett J. Fisher, Thomas B. Schafer, Joseph R. Talbot, and Matthew C. Walz placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2014 competition by taking the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).  Although Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, some of these students do become candidates for special scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.

Marmion Academy’s JROTC program honored 40 cadets with military promotions at the annual Sabre Ceremony on Friday, September 6, 2013.  These senior cadets were presented with a sabre (officers) or a sword (sergeants) by their parents, as they were promoted to the highest ranks in available in the JROTC program.  The following are Marmion’s JROTC student leaders for the 2013-14 school year. The Marmion-Rosary Band and Marmion Drill Team will be performing together for the Fiestas Patrias Aurora Parade on Sunday, September 15th.  The parade step off is at 11:00 a.m. and will wind through downtown Aurora. Fiestas Patrias Aurora brings sound, culture, and taste of Mexico in a two day festival of September 14th and 15th.  It celebrates a series of Mexican holidays including Mexico’s Independence, the anniversary of the revolution, the anniversary of the constitution, and commemorates the Mexican Workers Union. Fiestas Patrias Aurora is also the independence celebration for Chile, Peru and Guatemala. Come and enjoy this wonderful celebration! The Marmion Drill Team is under the leadership of Sergeant Major John Gissel. The Marmion-Rosary Band is under the direction of Stephen Thurlow.

We need your help to make MARMATHON 2013 a success! MARMATHON is a student led fundraiser to help offset the 20% gap between tuition and the actual cost of educating each Cadet. Marmion Academy announces the formation of the SPC (Simulation Prototyping Consortium for Business and Government) in partnership with Business Only Broadband and Lemko Corporation. The SPC Consortium will accelerate the benefits of modern day Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Schools and serve the needs of 21st century education by opening a cutting edge M2C Computational Science Living-Lab on their 325 acre campus in Aurora, IL. Ten Marmion students along with 3 adults joined other students and adults for a week of service at Nazareth Farm from June 2-8. Nazareth Farm is a Catholic community in rural West Virginia that transforms lives through a service-retreat experience. They are devoted to living out the Gospel message through the cornerstones of community, simplicity, prayer, and service. They serve alongside their neighbors to address substandard housing by providing home repair. They celebrate the richness of Appalachia and experience God by building relationships between our volunteers and the local community. Read more ...

Marmion Academy in Aurora graduated the 109 members of the Class of 2013 on May 26. Class Valedictorian Samuel Eallonardo, Salutatorian Matthew Switzer, Student Council President Jackson Rettig, Baccalaureate Mass Speaker Brett Koskinen, Exemplar Ducis (Ideal Leader) Peter Shares and guest speaker Dr. James P. Loftus ’76, president of Cardinal Stritch University, addressed the graduates.  Associate Headmaster Julie Garofalo announced that 83% of the graduates were awarded scholarships and grants totaling more than $13 million. The Class of 2013 will attend 67 different universities in 20 states next year. Of the 109 graduates, 43 were National Honor Society Members, 35 were Illinois State Scholars, 22 will play a sport at the university of their choice, 6 received Military Academy nominations, 3 were Advanced Placement Scholars, 2 were Advanced Placement Scholars with Honors, 2 were National Merit Commended Students, 1 was National Merit Finalist and 1 will be entering directly into the US Marines. The St. Timothy Youth Award is a national recognition award given to youth by the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry in collaboration with the Diocese of Rockford Catholic Education Office. Congratulations to senior Jake Ruddy and juniors Kevin Grahovec and Tyler Maryanski their outstanding finish at the IHSA Boys Track & Field State Finals on Saturday, May 25.
  • Jake Ruddy finished 9th in the long jump with a 22' 4 3/4" jump
  • Kevin Grahovec finished 4th in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:54.77
  • Tyler Maryanski tied for 10th in the high jump with a 6' 4" jump
The Sports Boosters is sponsoring the 4th Annual Senior Send Off slated for June 21st with a noon shotgun start at Tanna Farms. Cost is $500 per foursome (or $140 for individual golfers) and includes green and cart fees, and a pig roast dinner after the round. While the outing is designed for graduating seniors and their dads, it is open to all Marmion Family and Friends. Gather up a foursome and come out to have some great fun, great food, and great times with friends and family. Foursomes are now available to reserve. After advancing through two phases of competition, Marmion Academy’s JROTC Academic Team will compete in the final Championship round of The College Options Foundation’s 2013 JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl in Washington, D.C., on the campus of George Mason University, June 21 – 25, 2013.  The 2013 JROTC Academic team is comprised of juniors Daniel Creighton of Geneva, Eric Lifka of Aurora, Brian Simon of LaGrange and Zachary Wulbert of Batavia along with sophomores Joseph Dutton of Aurora, Thomas Sieben of Aurora and Robert Stephens of Bartlett. The Marmion Math Team finished fourth out of 61 teams in Division 2A at the ICTM State Math Finals on Saturday, May 4 at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  The team placed in the top 10 in the state in 13 out of 14 possible events. In addition, every student on the team medaled in at least one event, with most winning a maximum of 3 medals out of 3 events.  Overall, the Marmion Math Team took home 62 state medals. In early 2012, upon Headmaster, Dr. James Quaid’s recommendation, he and I discussed the need to make some revisions to the organizational structure of Marmion Academy in order to strengthen the mission of the Academy, clarify duties and help the institution run more effectively.  In early 2013, the Board of Trustees Long-Range Planning Committee, chaired by Board Chairman, Greg McKnight,  took up this same issue and has made a formal recommendation to me, as President of Marmion Academy, to make specific revisions to the organizational structure of Marmion Academy.  After consultation with the Board of Trustee Long Range Planning Committee, with the Abbey Council, with Dr. Quaid and with Mr. Anthony Tinerella, I have approved their recommendation, effective July 1, 2013. The Marmion Fine Arts Department will present their 2013 Fine Arts Forum on Thursday, May 16th. There will be a visual art display of Studio, Digital Design, and Art Appreciation prints from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. featuring the work of the Marmion Art department under the direction of Lisa Dzuricsko and Jean McLean. At 7:00 p.m. students  of Kristin Voris will present a one act theatrical production. At 7:30 p.m. the Marmion-Rosary Band, Marmion-Rosary Jazz Ensemble, the Marmion Men’s Chorus, the Marmion-Rosary Color Guard, and selected ensembles will perform their spring concert. Read more ...

The Marmion-Rosary Band, directed by Stephen Thurlow and assisted by Matt Kokes, competed in the Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) State Solo and Ensemble Contest at the University of Wisconsin –Milwaukee on Saturday April 27, 2013.  Only students that had received Star performances in the Class A competition at the district level were invited to compete in this festival. The Marmion-Rosary Band received 48 State Gold and 15 State Silver medals. Read more ...
Due to predicted weather conditions Marmion's campus will close at 1:25 today. 7th & 8th period classes have been canceled along with all practices/games. Drivers Ed has also been canceled. As of now, there WILL be dress rehearsal for the play at 4 pm - if anything changes, participants will be notified by 3 pm.

Abbot John Brahill OSB, President of Marmion Academy in Aurora announced that Anthony Tinerella, a 1984 Marmion graduate, will take over as the next Headmaster at the Catholic, Benedictine high school effective July 1. Tinerella will fill the position currently held by Dr. James Quaid, who has accepted the position of principal at Gordon Tech College Prep on Chicago’s north side. Tinerella holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Illinois State University and a master’s degree in Education and Administration from North Central College.

 “I am confident that Mr. Tinerella will continue and build upon the work that Dr. Quaid has done during these past two years in order to strengthen the educational mission of Marmion Academy in the coming years,”  said Abbot John Brahill. Read more ...
Marmion Academy will present its spring musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on Friday, April 19 at 7:30 pm; Saturday, April 20 at 2:00 and 7:30 pm; and Sunday, April 21 at 2:00 pm in the Academy's Alumni Hall. The Marmion-Rosary Band competed in the North Shore District Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) Solo and Ensemble contest on March 16. The musicians earned a total of 83 first division gold medals (69 Class A, 11 Class B and 3 Class C) and 19 silver medals. Fifty-five of these students will compete in the State Solo and Ensemble contest on April 27 at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. These state-bound students performed literature from the most difficult list (class A) and received a “star first rating”. Read more ...

Marmion Academy’s Schroeder Snipers Rifle Team competed in the Illinois High School Rifle League State Championship on March 2. They competed in Precision Air Rifle and Sporter Air Rifle classes and each team took 3rd place in their respective classes. Read more...
The Marmion Math Team finished in 2nd place in the ICTM Regional Competition on Feb. 23, losing only to 5-time state champion University of Chicago Lab School.  Marmion placed ahead of Montini, St. Francis, Lisle, and Nazareth.  Marmion Academy is currently ranked #4 in the state in Division 2A.  This gives the Cadets their 7th consecutive berth as a whole-team qualifier in the ICTM State Finals on Saturday, May 4 at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Bill Johnson, Director of Campus Ministry, Theology teacher and 1964 Marmion graduate, received the Pier Giorgio Frassati Achievement Award from the Catholic Diocese of Joliet. This award is in recognition for special achievement demonstrated through extraordinary work in the field of Youth Ministry. The award was presented to Johnson by Joliet Diocese Bishop R. Daniel Conlon at the 4th Annual Ministry Appreciation Banquet on January 31. Read more ...
Marmion Academy is proud to announce that senior, Samuel Eallonardo, son of Damian and Christine Eallonardo of Yorkville, has been named a Finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program. The IAEA Student Show, which includes a self-portrait by Marmion alumnus Daniel Klug ’12,  will be on display in the Dr. Scholl Exhibit Mezzanine throughout the month of January. Marmion Academy will host open auditions for boys and girls in grades 2-8 who would like to be a part of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Auditons will be Wednesday, January 16 beginning at 5 pm in room 115 at Marmion Academy located at 1000 Butterfield Road in Aurora. The show will run the weekend of April 19. Children are asked to prepare a selection from “Close Every Door” and “Any Dream Will Do.” Interested individuals should have their parents/guardians contact Kristin Voris at kvoris@marmion.org for a copy of the informational packet.
Marmion Academy student artists will have their work on display at the Winter Garden of Youth Art, an annual exhibition of works of art by Aurora students from K-12. The artwork of Andrew Grahovec ’14, Brandon Rockwood ’14, Chris Unruh ’14, Finn Gleason ’14 and Joe Fahey ’13 will be on display at the Aurora Public Art Commission’s 3rd floor gallery at 20 E. Downer Place from Dec. 14 – Jan. 25. There will be an opening reception on Friday, Dec. 14 from 5-7pm.
Marmion’s head baseball coach, Dave Rakow, along with the Marmion coaching staff and varsity baseball players will be hosting a youth preseason baseball boot camp from Jan. 3 – 5, 2013 at Marmion Academy (1000 Butterfield Road, Aurora). Boys ages 10-14 are encouraged to kick start their 2013 season with a preseason camp that will teach the skills, drills and workout plan necessary to improve game play. Read more ...

Marmion Academy’s JROTC Adventure Platoon provided twenty Kane and Kendall County families with the makings for a Thanksgiving feast.  On Monday, November 19 each family, selected by DayOne Network in Geneva, was presented with a frozen turkey and all of the ingredients necessary for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner as well as a $50 gift card. Marmion Academy High School is hosting its Scholarship Qualifying Entrance Exam for 8th grade boys on Saturday, December 1st beginning at 9:00 AM. In order to register for the exam, an application for admission must be filed prior to or on the day of the exam. December is the only test date for the Scholarship Qualifying exam. The exam must be taken at Marmion to qualify for a scholarship. Ten scholarships will be awarded to incoming freshmen based on academic merit of the exam.

Marmion Academy will hold its annual Veterans’ Day Observance Ceremony on Friday, November 9 at 3:15 p.m. in the Alumni Hall gymnasium. The Marmion JROTC Cadet Corps will honor all veterans and especially deceased alumni veterans of war during the after school formation and parade. The public is welcome to attend.

The guest  of honor at this year’s ceremony is Fr. Paul Weberg, OSB. Fr. Paul is a monk at Marmion Abbey and a theology teacher at Marmion Academy. In addition to his roles at Marmion, Fr. Paul serves as a Military Chaplain in the Illinois Army National Guard and has been deployed to Iraq, Italy, and Botswana, as well as to many locations within the United States. 

Marmion Academy, located at 1000 Butterfield Road in Aurora, will hold an open house for prospective students and their families on Sunday, Nov. 8 at 1:00 PM. Please enter through the Regole Field House.

The open house will give students a comprehensive look at Marmion Academy, its academic, athletic and extracurricular programs. Prospective students can also meet the members of the Administration, faculty members and current students while touring the campus.

Marmion's Scholarship Qualifying Entrance Exam will be given on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 9 AM. Eighth-grade applicants must take the exam on this day to be eligible for one of the 14 scholarships to be awarded, totaling over $250,000. To register for the exam, applicants need to file an application prior to the the test date. Complete information can be found on the school’s web site, marmion.org/admissions.

Eighth grade students interested in Marmion are encouraged to “shadow” a current student. Parents should contact the Admissions Office at 630-897-6936 to schedule a visit.

Marmion Academy, a Catholic-Benedictine college preparatory school for young men, is a community dedicated to spiritual formation, academic excellence and leadership development. The student body of 527 students represents 41 area cities and towns.
