    Changes Coming to Marmion Athletics

    Marmion Academy’s Athletic Department will be under new leadership next school year as Joe Chivari returns to a full-time teaching position after 15 years as the school’s Athletic Director. Andrew Damato, currently the assistant AD and 2001 graduate of the Academy, begins his career as the Athletic Director this July. Damato joined Marmion’s staff in 2012 as Director of Student Affairs and has also worked as assistant Athletic

    Director the last two years.  Before coming to Marmion, Damato worked for three years at Guerin Colleg e Prep High School where he held numerous positions  in cluding Dean of Students and Boys Athletic Director.

    One of Damato’s first tasks as AD will be leading the search for a new head baseball coach.  At the end of the current season Coach David Rakow announced that he accepted the position as the Director of the Academic Center at Marmion and plans to focus on building that program. Rakow has coached Cadets baseball since 2006. His first season coaching sophomore baseball the team had an impressive record of 20-2. He then coached varsity for 8 seasons with a record of 150-85. Under his direction the Cadets have won 5 conference championships and 4 regional championships. Rakow will continue coaching at the lower level for football and basketball.

    Marmion Graduates Earn $16 + Million in Scholarships

    Marmion Academy in Aurora graduated the 125 members of the Class of 2015 on May 22. Class Co-Valedictorians Thomas Sieben of Aurora and Robert Stephens of Bartlett, Salutatorian Colin Sheehan of Geneva, and guest speaker Right Reverend John Brahill, OSB ’67, Abbot of Marmion Abbey/President of Marmion Academy, addressed the graduates. Director of Student Academic Services Joseph Large announced that 76% of the graduates were awarded scholarships and grants totaling more than $16 million. 100% of the Class of 2015 has been accepted by a college or university and will attend 66 different universities in 24 states next year. One graduate will enter directly into the military: Eric Ortlund of Aurora has enlisted in the US Army.  Click for more...

    Marmion Sings at Memorial Day Parade
    Members of the Marmion Men’s Chorus sing at the conclusion of the ceremony which would kick-off the parade and festivities in honor of Memorial Day in Downtown Aurora on May 25, 2015. The Students participating in this ceremony featured in the photo from left to right were Harrison Kearby ‘16, Sharbel Romanos ’15, Patrick Zolfo ’15, Tim Gilmore ’16, Conroy Unruh ’15, Dave Carrano ’16, and Paul Bancroft ’15. They Performed arrangements of In Flander’s Fields, A well known song composed from a poem written during World War I to honor those who sacrificed their lives, and concluded the Ceremonies with a rendition of God Bless America.
